River Hills Residence

The layout of this River Hills home already supported the family’s everyday routines, but several architectural elements kept the spaces from feeling cohesive. Off-center focal points, drywall bump-outs, and heavy kitchen bulkheads interrupted the home’s natural flow and diminished its architectural impact. Rather than removing every challenge, we looked for opportunities to highlight the home’s strengths and create greater continuity from one room to the next.

In the family room, custom millwork and a built-in media wall created space for family photographs and meaningful keepsakes. Instead of disguising the off-center fireplace, we turned it into a defining feature with detailed trim work, patterned tile, and a warm white paint color, giving it a stronger presence within the room.

Across the adjoining spaces, the design reflects the homeowners’ story. A citrus-inspired wallpaper in the breakfast room nods to their Florida roots and family background in produce. In the kitchen, two-toned cabinetry and a patterned backsplash introduce a European influence, while watercolor artwork recalls their favorite trips to Italy.

That same balance of architecture and personal history continues throughout the home. Vintage family pieces sit comfortably alongside updated furnishings, while architectural millwork and a custom display cabinet bring character to the living and dining rooms without overshadowing the memories they hold.

A guest bedroom now serves as both a workout space and guest retreat, with a wall bed, integrated storage, and movable furnishings that allow the space to adapt as the family’s needs change. Whether hosting overnight guests or welcoming grandchildren for the weekend, the room easily adapts to each occasion.

This home now feels welcoming from the moment you arrive. Every design decision strengthens the architecture while celebrating the family’s history and the life they’ve built together.
